Web Site Changes: www.gilmercountyhba.net

To improve the quality of our website we have changed our web service provider. Our new provider was able to utilize most of our previous site and is making improvements to the site using the latest technology available. We feel this change was necessary and important to ensure clarification and that every person who accesses our site is able to find your business.

We are pleased to inform you of major changes (like a drop down search option and a clearer understanding of who owns the site) that will soon be completed. We found that some people were not sure that they were on our HBA site and had recommended changes in that area. Others didn't know how to search the site to find your business. We welcome your recommendations and strive to make our site better.

We wish all of you a safe and prosperous New Year!

GCHBA 2007 ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

The Gilmer County Home Builders Association has been busy in 2007, working on special contributions to our community. In union with the County, we are near completion of building restrooms in the county park. In addition to the restrooms, the County will add new lighting, which will allow park goers the use of the park longer each day. To assist with this project or to make a contribution contact Billy Best at 706-635-1515.

Another project close to our hearts is the Kiosk being built in the Downtown Square in Ellijay. A fifth generation carpenter and President of the Association, Tony Woody, has offered his skills to build the Kiosk. The Kiosk will be the location for information about the events going on in our community. To assist with this project or to make a contribution contact Billy Best at 706-635-1515.

The Kid’s Kottage (a joint effort of the Home Builders Association, DEFAC, and the Family Connection) is a program in the planning stages. The Kid’s Kottage will assist families in Gilmer County who have struggles with visitation and other family issues. Contact Tom Porter at 770-735-4888 to pledge your contribution or for additional information.

Financial support was given to the Relay for Life, GRASP (a program to help senior citizens with yard work organized by a local church), and the Commitment to Excellence Program (a Christian based program to reinforce leadership) which was shown to students at Gilmer County Schools.

Now that you have checked our our web site, let us know if you would like to advertise with us. Our Association allows members to promote their businesses with low cost advertising rates. So get in while you can. Helping to grow your business makes Gilmer County a better place to work and play. See the site for updates on our Association activities and goings on in our county. Contact Barbara Woody at 706-273-0717 or Jayne Hudson at 706-276-1781 to place your ads.

We were elated with the outcome of the Fire Sprinkler issue. GCHBA sent our Fire Chief and a County Official who were instrumental in the downfall of the bill to place fire sprinklers in residential homes in Georgia. While fire sprinklers do save lives, in our community the mandatory installation of sprinklers would price homes out of the reach of many buyers.

Upcoming events for our Association are the Codes seminar in the planning stages for July, installation of our newly elected officers in August, and our Golf Tournament in September. Contact our Executive Officer, Jayne Hudson with questions or for additional information at 706-276-1781 or jayne@gilmercountyhba.com.
